Intentional Spending: Instead of buying something just because it’s on sale, figure out what you need then find the best price for it.
Find the Right Time to Buy: Your local library may have a subscription to Consumer Reports, so you can help find the best brand and model for a specific thing you are looking to buy. Consumer Reports also lists the “Best Time to Buy Things“.
Buy Refurbished: Determine if this is an item that you would buy refurbished or used to get it at a better price.
Locate coupons: This can be done when signing up for a newsletter, Googling if the website has coupons, or using a browser extension like Capital One Shopping that can find coupons.
Use Cashback sites:
Rakuten (Referral Link), ShopBack (Referral Link), and Capital One Shopping (Referral Link) can often net you an extra 5-10% cashback. I just opt to use whichever one has the best deal for the site I decide to purchase from.
Check your credit card website to see if they have an offer for even more cashback
Between Coupons / Sales / Cashback I try to get 40%+ off so, if needed, I can typically sell things for what I purchased them for through Facebook Marketplace.
Add it to your Gift List: For those items on your list that never seem to go on sale, add those to your Birthday / Christmas list as not everyone is looking to find the best deal.
